A raise the roof approach to thinking here for this North Portland residence, aimed to breathe new life, daylight, and outdoor connection into the owners lives. The existing main level of the house was reorganized, specifically the bedroom in the back of house. Adding onto the existing bedroom, and reorganizing the rest, allowed the main living area to open up, connect to the spacious backyard, and create a tidy master suite haven. The addition of 2 extra bedrooms and bath on a new upper level at the rear of the house, hovering above the new, main level master suite, creates covered outdoor space off the opened up main living area. A new roof language completely connects the old to the new, from low to high, vaulting the main living space and adding daylight via a rooftop monitor dormer.
