The Dalles Pocket Park / E. 2nd & Washington

A small outside corner of an existing parking lot, directly across the street from the Granada Theater in the Dalles was gifted to the city for a new little pocket park. Our concept for the park  was one where art, identity, and containment exist as one.  Three large panels of weathering steel come together to form a sculpture that is the park, it’s visual identity. The panels  provide the containment from the existing parking lot that surrounds  it in the form of 2 walls and a partial overhead plane. Coupled to these panels are plinths of concrete seating where one can sit and enjoy the small reprieve from the city sidewalk landscape.
